Competence in the russian language as a condition of adaptation of students from tajikistan at the universities of Tomsk

Competence in the Russian language is one of the main conditions of adaptation of students from Tajikistan studying at the universities of Tomsk. In the twenty-five years since the breakup of the Soviet Union, there have been significant changes in the country's language policy that have affected the state of bilingualism in independent Tajikistan. The article analyses the current level of competence in the Russian language of students from Tajikistan who study in Tomsk (Russia) using detailed individual interviews with Tajik students, representatives of the Tajik diaspora in Tomsk, and teachers at Tomsk and Moscow universities. Attention is given to the individual, social, and institutional conditions that contribute to successful or impeded Russian language acquisition.. The interview materials preserve the lexical and grammatical features of the speech of the respondents and the features of their Russian pronunciation. Competence in the language is considered in the context of the ability of an individual to decode the cultural codes of the receiving community. It is suggested that both a desire to solve the problem and a certain imitation are the objectives of discourse about Russian language acquisition by educational immigrants from near-abroad countries. The paper focuses on the methods of the sending and receiving communities for successful Russian language acquisition by students from Tajikistan as a condition of their successful adaptation to the culture of the receiving community, and the potential use of these methods in various spheres of the national economy of both countries and in international projects. The work of E. Giddens, M. Bennett, and J. Weaver are used as the methodological approach to the research.
