On the terminological meaning of language items of ancient philosophy
The article deals with the language items: words and phrases that characterize the ancient philosophy. They can be a concept, image, symbol, term; or perform the functions of any other rather than inherent in the item itself. The description of the formation of the term and its comprehension can be viewed from two perspectives. The process of acquiring terminological meaning by the rational and emotional forms of thinking is connected with the features of historical development. Therefore it is important to turn to the etymology revealing the origin of meaning and content of the language items under consideration. Comprehension occurs in the reverse perspective (teleological) when the established meaning (its implementation) -entelechy serves to guarantee the accuracy and clarity of the term which is still being formed. It refers to the term 'ancient philosophy' and to the others (e.g., eros, logos) which disclose both their meanings and the content of key term. In Plato's time there was the word philosophy. Its mission is to choose terminology significant definition from existing images, words and concepts, showing way of life and thought of the philosopher. The discrepancy of substance significant and terminology status naming is revealed. In Plato's dialogues the development of concepts enthusiasm, pathos, ecstasy, and a number of others is focused in Eros, terminologically fixed in philia. Philia is a concept similar to Eros, but etymologically it has more moderate qualities: inclination, interest. It conveys the importance of activity imbued with love for true wisdom. The second part of the term philosophy is sophia, word- symbol. The notions of logos and ratio are important for understanding the theme of Sophia. Logos tends to be spiritually inexhaustible and symbolic, it confronts the myth in terms of rationality, but as the word and thought of the Divine it is spirit that is not subject to the rigidity of ratio. The conceptual development of the absolute, pretersensual and ratio is focused on the Logos, terminologically fixed in sophia. Difficulty in studying the terminological meaning is conditioned by a variety of research experience, philosophical and methodological orientations of particular stage of philosophical historiography. Complicated language forms (symbols, images) are involved in the formation of the term, metaphoricity and emotional nature of the words should be taken into account. This creates ambiguity, variability, openness of the meaning that ensures the vitality and viability of ancient philosophy.
