On the possibility of the two interpretations of definite description
The subject of the paper is the problem of the two various interpretations of definite descriptions as it is presented in the article of E.V. Borisov "On Two Interpretations of Definite Descriptions". In this article definite descriptions are considered both as singular terms and individuating predicates. From the point of view of E.V. Borisov these interpretations demand to interpret the sentence copula as expressing the identity or the subject-predicate relation. The possibilities of such approach are analyzed in the paper. It is proved, that approach of E.V. Borisov is possible only under the condition of ignoring of the distinction between primary and secondary occurrence of logical constants, which denotation phrases contain. It is proved that the relational understanding of the copula is not removable generally, if it is necessary to keep distinction between primary and secondary occurrence of logic constants in the statements which are used definite descriptions.
