«Masculinity in dance or» real men do not dance !?

The author of article "Masculinity in dance or" real men do not dance !? "deals with the problems of philosophy understanding of dance and gender representation in dance. The key moment of the author's reasoning is the comparative analysis of the essential characteristics of the human. The author, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor at the department of Humanities and Socio-Economic disciplines of Omsk Tank-Automotive Engineering Institute, social dancing choreographer Zhaparova Aliya Kairgeldievna. The author of this article had the task of explaining the reasons of stigmatization of dance as a sphere of "female" and understanding of explication of masculinity in dance. The essence of the problem is reduced to passivity of philosophy to the dance, which is associated primarily specificity of the material - the human body, which has been a taboo subject for the Western European Christian society, and also the philosophical tradition recognized the primacy of the mind over the body. In such a way the dance by and large refers to the «philosophy of physicality» discourse. The main part of this article provides a comparison of binary oppositions in the descriptions of the essential characteristics of human in Western philosophy, in which preference is given to the characteristics traditionally belonging to "male". This in turn explains the reasons of the normative dualism in culture. In conclusion, the author leads the reader to idea of the possibility of overcoming the dualism by seeking broader forms of rationality, and dance in this sense can be an important resource as the dance material is a living body. In dance, the body can be represented in the masculine and feminine aspects. Therefore, the assertion that the natural flexibility, plasticity, special rhythms of the female body are in aggregate basis "predisposition" to dance according to the author is not quite correct. There are stereotypes in modern society that claim dance as something "female", but they are nothing more than the result of misconceptions about the nature of the dance.
