Virtual public sphere: the potential of democratization

The article discusses some features of the Internet, which are inhibiting its use as a public sphere. A sociological perspective as an alternative to legal, political, and economic views helps develop new criteria for determining quality of virtual communications. Novel understanding of the problems may stimulate reflection on the existing conditions of communication and influence their regulation.
