Cultural activity in Tomsk region in the context of the cultural capital concept and innovation modernization processes
According to the fact that modern societies evolve in postindustrial or informational stages, cultural capital became one of the most important resources of innovation processes in the local regions. This article describes the results of research, which completed as a part of the initiated by the Russian Institute of Philosophy in 2005main research project "Sociocultural evolution of Russia and its regions". Methodology of this project assumes that we can use cultural activity - the frequency of cultural places attendance - as a criterion for measurement of a cultural capital in a region. Sociological researches of the cultural activity mostly involve two theories in the process of finding determining factors: P. Bourdieu cultural capital concept and the rational choice theory, so we shortly described these approaches in the first part of the article. In the second part we analyzed the influence of different factors on the cultural activity of the Tomsk region settlers. We exploited results of the 2015 year research which was completed with help by Russian Governmental Scientific Fund. We found that we could divide Tomsk population into three main groups: -the group with a high level of cultural activity, which consists mainly from young people (less than 29 years age) and people of intermediate and higher social statuses. -the group with a mediate level of cultural activity - married with children respondents, who begun to visit cultural places (and especially nightclubs, stadiums and cinemas) much more rarely. -the group of culturally inactive respondents, mostly elder than 60 years or/and people with social status lower than intermediate. Researching determinative for cultural activity factors, we found two interesting points: absence of influence of education factor on the attendance of cultural places (including museum and theatre) and absence of clear influence of a social status on women's cultural activity combined with clear influence of social statuses on men's cultural activity. We concluded that cultural activity of people in Tomsk was rather high according to other Russian regions, and this fact implicitly approved our presumption that there was link between region's innovation stage and its level of cultural activity. Further, our research data reveal high cultural activity is typical mostly for young people. We can assume that there is still no formed cultural elite (or it doesn't demonstrate cultural activity which we could find with our questionnaire) which could be stable source of a region's innovative evolution.
