Automobility culture in the context of contemporary concepts of space
The article is considered how the origin and spreading of automobile cultureis influenced to change conception of space in the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries. It is examined both changes in social space and the process of enlargement and "devaluation" of space as well. The author explores the transformation of the concept of "place" affected by car culture, as well as the beginning of the notion of "non-place" in contemporary culture. The same time a car itself is considered in the context of the concept of place, so as for modern man it has many characteristics that are inherent to the traditional comprehension of place. Also, the automobile is regarded as a means of connecting places and non-places into a single social and individual space.
