Analytical philosophy and institutional economics

The article examines the influence of analytical philosophy on the institutional direction of economic theory. Two points are the most relevant and discussed: it is the impact of the analytic philosophy of consciousness and the theory of speech acts on the institutional theory. The institutional environment is associated with the functioning of human consciousness by several reasons: - There is an infinite variety and variability of human activity, the forms of which create a wide range of models of social behavior and determine economic changes. - Human consciousness does not simplify the models of reality but reproduces them in more detail. The development of the language and the system of symbols leads to progression in the structuring of the environment that is created more complicated forms of social organization. - Institutional traits do not have attributes that are of natural origin. A man does not have a genetic inclination to create institutional memes. Objects of the world cannot be objects of institutional reality because of their physical structure. Intentionality of a man determines the institutions. - Institutional development arising from the growth of knowledge and technology determines the process of complicating social structures, which increases uncertainty about the social role of the person. The influence of language on the formation of institutional reality is described in the theory of speech acts. The emergence of institutional facts is a process in which intentionality acquires a collective form of ascription of functions that are not physically peculiar to objects. Language is the necessary basis for the creation of collective intentionality. The very existence of institutions, their functions and deontology is represented with the help of language facilities. The principle of hierarchy of institutional reality points to the existence of institutional conditions for the effectiveness of institutions of a different order. The theory of speech acts claims the absence of an infinite regression in this hierarchy. Institutions will form other institutions throughout the life of humankind but each of these institutions is impossible without the availability of linguistic facilities that underlie the institutional reality.
