Biopower as general social phenomenon and its modern crisis transformations

In the paper an attempt of complex analysis of such phenomenon as biopower takes place. It is shown that it is much wider than power of medicine because there are processes of medicalization and pharmacologization of everyday life, massive expansion of new biomedical technologies in modern society. The relation of biopower to other kinds of power is also researched. Contemporary biopower is strongly connected with economk power due to commercial and consumer tendencies in it. On the other hand, modern biopower appears a sort of "soft" power because it doesn't use direct influence or control and has more mediated methods and strategies. Nevertheless, the global socio-biological crisis as part of general anthropological crisis takes place nowadays. It is caused by ambivalence of contemporary civilizational progress and break of coevolution between the social and its biological basis. This crisis appears in such phenomena as epidemic of noncommunicable diseases, global aging, high levels of stress etc. It is argued that this crisis can become a stimulus for transformation of biopower when it begins to lose its manipulative character and turn into sphere of rational management for biological fundament of society. The medical transformations is complementary to this movement and is connected with transition of medicine to new predictive, preventive, personalized forms.
