The precariat and the creative class: a comparative analysis of the social structure patterns of a post-industrial society
This article first compares Richard Florida's theory of the creative class and Guy Standing's theory of the precariat. Attention is focused on the inconsistency of the grounds for social stratification in these theories. Their authors consider different, but interrelated processes of transformation of the sphere of labor. As a result of the synthesis of the social structure models, a social group was identified that corresponds simultaneously to both the precariat and the creative class. This social group, the creative precariat, is formed as a result of the internal segmentation of creative industries and the intensification of social and economic instability. The approach to its consideration existing in the scientific literature does not allow taking into account the dynamics of interprofessional stratification processes. The criticism of this approach convicting the creative precariat in the context of Florida's and Standing's theories needs analysis. On the basis of these theories synthesis, the specifics of the processes of the inclusion of creative industry workers in the new social group are revealed.
