On politics, economy and oeconomy (On the role of property in the monastic life of Orthodoxy)
The main theme of the paper is the definition of the boundaries of the concept “Slavic world” on the example of its specified sample, the “Russian world”, in the context of the essential idea that binds this world, that allows people living in this world, regardless of their geographical location in the coordinate system of the globe, to understand each other. That is, people can be on the same not only geographical, but also hermeneutic surface, within a single territory of conscious meanings; they can have shared meanings, social and cultural codes, though not always conscious. Moreover, they can speak about their common social, civil, political, cultural and ideological similarity as “Russian”, regardless of nationality. Paraphrasing the words of Kant, we can say: the most valuable thing is to realize that it is us and that we think identically. The thesis of the paper is that culture, which indicates the appearance of a people, is determined by faith. A change of faith results in the disappearance of a people. In other words, social groups, communities, strata, peoples of the state will unite around certain values - even if first secular, they will necessarily become sacred; or first sacred and immediately recognized in their primevalness. At the same time, the way people behave in the presence of their sacred values testifies to their economic and social relations, everyday behavior, gestures, facial expressions, customs, traditions, habits, customs, laws, or, more specifically, to rituals, conscious or not yet conscious. In the first case, we can only speak about civilizational processes; in the second about cultural and civilizational ones. It is in the second case that we can speak about symbols, myths, legends, chronicles, epics, folklore, ideologies, and even about science, philosophy, political science and, particularly, sociology. In this regard, the representative basis of the research is the considered role of monastic life in the culture of Russia, namely, a study of the current problem of property and the attitude of the Church to it within the framework of the controversy between “possessors” and “non-possessors”.
