Generation Z's Digital Literacy: A Social Network View
The preamble discusses the growing lag behind the digital transformation of the economy and the service sector as a key problem in the Russian education system. The key approaches to the conceptualization of the concept of digital literacy in foreign and Russian research discourse are considered. It is emphasized that various conceptual approaches to the qualitative definition and methods of measuring digital literacy have become the subject of scientific and pedagogical discussions and discussions related to determining the policies of different developed countries in the field of education. There is a shortage of approaches to the analysis of competencies associated with effective communication and adaptation to the social network communication culture of youth. A new conceptualization of social network digital literacy as an element of network digital culture and general digital literacy of generation Z is proposed. Based on the estimates and opinions of representatives of the digital generation identified as a result of a series of field studies in the framework of a research project devoted to the study of the network culture of generation Z, the content is described of the following linguistic, communicative, ethical and self-presenting competencies that form network digital literacy: (1) linguistic competence in the production of different genres of social networking content and effective feedback; (2) communicative competence in organizing contexts of social network communication with various user audiences; (3) practical and normative competence to comply with ethical standards and etiquette requirements and to maintain conflict-free social network communication; (4) competencies of social network self-presentation. It has been suggested that the explication of key skills and behavioral norms that reflect social network digital literacy will allow it to be further monitored through their operationalization as an element of general digital literacy among schoolchildren, students, teachers and higher education teachers. In the conclusion, there is a discussion of a number of issues related to the conceptualization and inclusion / exclusion of individual social network communication skills in the concept of digital literacy (for example, the skills of safe communication in social networks), as well as the specific content of the required skills within the framework of linguistic, communicative, practical ethical and self-presentation competencies.
