The Business Elites of the Leading Countries in 2020: A Complex Study
The main players and key beneficiaries of globalization are the business elites of the world's major economies, which are incrementally uniting into a transnational capitalist class. Features of business elites that allow us to understand the future of their states and the whole world determine our interest in them. The author, based on the ratings of billionaires (Forbes, Hurun) and various statistical studies of millionaires, analyzes the main characteristics of the business elites of the planet. The number, wealth, gender composition, number of children, the degree of self-made quality, education, industry specialization, oligarchy, settlement in large cities are studied. To analyze the level of oligarchy of business elites, the author uses the layer proportions method and the method of dynamic middle age. Special attention is paid to the analysis of movements of business elites around the planet. Three forms of global mobility of billionaires and millionaires are distinguished: long-term, medium-term, and short-term. The main trends in the development of business elites of the world's major economies in 2020 and in previous years were rapid growth in numbers and wealth, a decrease in the western core and an increase in national heterogeneity, multilateral industry specialization, an increase in female presence, stable vertical social mobility, and a low degree of oligarchy (in most states), fairly even expansion (in most states), the rapid growth of global mobility. Russia's business elite is notable for its relatively small number, youthfulness, a high degree of self-made quality, masculinity, an extremely high orientation to work in the energy and raw materials sectors of the economy, an extremely high degree of oligarchy, over-concentration in Moscow, and a high degree of global mobility. The analysis of the Russian business elite allows concluding that Russia has developed a Moscow-centralized oligarchic and extensive-resource capitalism, which at the same time is an integral part of global capitalism.
