Transformation of the Subject of Education: Expansion of the Concept of Self-Care
Education is a rather conservative public institution; however, the challenges of the time require a revision of the concept of the subject of education. The article reflects on the problem of transformation of the subject of education. The technogenic civilization leads to the erosion of the individual, subjective principle, and this clearly shows in the history of philosophical thought. The culture of the information society, the essential sign of which will be technical power and the driving force will be information, manifests itself through the formation of a linguistic information culture. The leisurely world with the culture of the word confronts the dynamic and diverse world of information. The history of pedagogy and education represents the tradition of understanding human education as a person's ascent to their essential principle, as their immersion in the world of culture. The ancient Greek concept of paideia is considered as a person's education and upbringing realized through a person's mastering culture, virtue and universal knowledge. There is a line to humanitas from paideia, humanism is understood as the cultivation of humanity, our appeal from the today's world to the ancient world with the advancement of paideia. Attention is focused on the understanding of education through an appeal to a person in their integrity, as opposed to the understanding of education as a technology for transferring knowledge and competencies. The concepts of education as an individual's elevation to the universal are analyzed. Attention is also focused on the impossibility of education outside of culture, education is seen as a way to master culture. Forming oneself, a person not only copies the given cultural patterns, carries out the translation of cultural experience, but also builds new structures. Through education, a person moves towards the disclosure of their true "Self'. Education, understood as an ongoing process, helps isolate a person's uniqueness. The inexhaustibility of the educational process implies the constant presence of a person in the status of the subject of education. The author studies the understanding of the subject of education through the prism of the concept of self-care as a general attitude towards oneself and as a set of practices. Caring for oneself is not understood as an abstract principle, but as an urgent need of a person, which finds its expression in the practice of working on oneself, changing oneself. It is concluded that a person cannot do without taking care of oneself, as they are endowed with consciousness and reflection. To take care of oneself means to take care of one's education and self-education, self-transformation, a person forms oneself as a subject of education, builds oneself up as a person.
