Digitalization of the Contemporary Space of SocioPolitical Communications: Scientific Concepts, Models, and Scenarios
The article reviews scientific concepts, models, and scenarios related to the digitalization of contemporary social and political communication processes. The authors consider the main approaches to determining the content and features of the global digitalization impact on the transformation of socio-political practices. The article presents scientific positions regarding the role of digital technologies in contemporary public consciousness management. Special attention is paid to scientific scenarios of digital transformation and its impact on the traditional political system. Based on the analysis of scientific works, the authors identified the critical threats, risks, and challenges in ensuring state sovereignty and national security in the context of technological transformations. The research procedure and methods are based on a discourse analysis of Russian and foreign scientific works devoted to the socio-political aspects of contemporary digitalization and its role in the functioning and transformation of contemporary institutions of power, as well as on a critical analysis of the approaches proposed by contemporary political science to the study and understanding of the digitalization phenomenon. Simultaneously, discourse analysis, as the primary methodological optics, was used taking into account the principles of the hermeneutics of the existing scientific approaches. The discourse analysis of various scientific concepts, models, and scenarios of digitalization of social and political communications carried out in the course of the study allows the authors to conclude that the traditional social reality known to us is rapidly evolving into a new, socio-technical reality (phygital world), which has its own pronounced distinctive features. Based on the study results, the authors conclude that today the global architecture of a new socio-technical reality is being created in the world, based on the dominance of digital communication technologies in key spheres of life of the contemporary state and society. The work shows that many scientists, whose works were analyzed within the framework of the article, express serious concerns about the possibility of setting regimes of “soft dictatorships” based on control over information and communication processes in the sociopolitical space, on the formation of a distorted digital reality, on the reduction of opportunities for citizens to actively and consciously participate in contemporary political processes.
