The textbook Methodology of Scientific Research (For Candidate and Doctoral Dissertations) by G.D. Boush and V.I. Razumov is aimed at improving the methodological skills of scientists (postgraduates and doctoral students), in particular, at forming the competency “ability to independently organize and conduct scientific research”. The authors emphasize the independence of research; therefore, the textbook is distinguished by its practical orientation. It aims at forming the skills of the activities mentioned in the competencies. The textbook has four sections and seventeen topics. In Section 1, “Introduction to the methodology of scientific research”, the authors set out the theoretical foundations of scientific research, as well as the regulatory requirements for dissertations in the Russian Federation. Section 2, “Organization of the preparatory stage of scientific research”, contains a description of methodological technologies for the development of the concept and program of research, the formation of the author’s methodology, requirements for the culture of the researcher. Section 3, “Methodological approaches and methods of scientific research”, describes methodological approaches that make up the basic platform for the course methodology, as well as several classes of categorical methods that allow researching the essential aspects of the chosen object at a high-quality level. Section 4, “Processing and presentation of the results of scientific research”, contains a description of methodological technologies that allow organizing of the results of scientific research effectively, to present its description and results in scientific texts of different formats. The methodology of scientific research is based on the author’s categorical-system methodology, which has proven itself as a highly heuristic search platform that allows generating new knowledge in a wide variety of fields, as well as preparing students for highly productive scientific researches in any field, solving problems of any complexity. Therefore, the textbook is addressed to postgraduates and doctoral students of all areas of study. The textbook meets the current requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education. The textbook can be recommended to postgraduate students of all areas of training; doctoral students, lecturers of the course “Methodology of Scientific Research” and related academic disciplines, as well as other researchers.
