The Logic of Deep Disagreements
The concept of deep disagreement proposed in the paper develops Wittgenstein’s idea of the essential role played by the fundamental provisions of knowledge and cognition, on which, like on hinges, their development, update, discussion, as well as their methodology, are based. Deep disagreements are principal abnormal differences of opinions between parties. The parties in the deep disagreement can agree on many issues, but still disagree in their moral standings. Deep disagreements cannot be resolved by means of proof, demonstrative reasoning, and clear sincere thinking. For overcoming it, it is necessary to recognize the existence of deep disagreements and to allow using the tools of persuasion and other ways of influence.
