Gender Specificity of a Political Reflection on Risks: An Experience of a Sociological Measurement
The focus of the article is an analysis of the gender characteristics of perception and understanding of one's vulnerability to dangers, assessment of risks and threats, the level of security of the environment, the context of influence on political and social relations. The aim of the article is to identify the gender characteristics of the influence of “politically reflexive” risks on the nature of manifestations of political participation and to reveal the gender specificity of social mechanisms of the relationship between threat identification and various ways of participation (non-participation) in politics. The range of issues related to the analysis of the gender aspects of behavior and gender attribution in situations of threat / danger / risk is being problematized. The article presents the results of an all-Russian sociological survey conducted in 2020. According to the study, women are more likely to consider risks as an inevitable companion of human existence, and they feel much less safe. The gender features of the classification and ranking of threats and assessments of the reactions of Russian political institutions to them, their actions to manage threats and neutralize them are revealed. According to the survey, women are more inclined to believe that, when a threat arises, the authorities try to “hush it up”, while men believe that the authorities shift the responsibility for solving “risk situations” to the population. The study revealed that women are more likely to choose milder forms of political action; men are more focused on participating in protests, including radical ones. The authors propose areas of research in the field of gender riskology - analysis of the gender features of behavioral strategies in situations of uncertainty and risk, gender differentiation of parameters of social acceptability of risk, gender aspects of various types of risk adaptations, gender component of political interests in riskogenic society.
