Richard Rorty on the conversation of humankind: Rewriting of philosophy and major contexts
The book RichardRorty: A ‘fringe analytic philosopher’ by Oxana Tselishcheva and the article reviewing this book by Sergey Smirnov propose a discussion of Richard Rorty’s understanding of the subject and tasks of philosophy. This article continues the discussion. The author pays significant attention to Rorty’s re-description of philosophy as the “conversation of humankind” and proposes various possible contexts for understanding the metaphor “conversation of humankind” based on Rorty’s Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity. Also, the author touches upon the possible consequences for political theory from the redescription of philosophy as a “conversation of humankind” and from Rorty’s peculiar understanding of the liberal project. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
