Scientific ideals in digital culture

Scientific ideals, like any others, are formed under the influence of cultural attitudes prevailing in society. Modern culture is often referred to as “digital”, emphasizing the level of development of information technology, which allows creating digital models of the world. Understanding the ideals that determine the characteristics of activity in the field of science is impossible without correlating with value structures, which are also in the process of transformation due to digitalization. Digitalization is a natural stage in the development of the information society, aimed at a constant increase in the flow of information. Continuous growth of knowledge and idealization of technologies become a model for scientists professionally engaged in research activities. The effectiveness of scientific activity is determined not only by quantitative indicators, such as an increase in the volume of knowledge and the use of digital platforms, but also by assessing the speed of implementation of innovations. Commercial success, demand for the created product are the main guidelines for research teams. Economic development and the strengthening of political ties directly depend on the scientific and technological breakthrough that the state is capable of. Not only the economy, but also politics is interested in scientific and technical developments; therefore, measures to support scientific research in developed countries are increasing every year. But in addition to the risks that arise during the change of scientific ideals, a number of positive aspects can be noted. First of all, this is the formation of the ideal of open science, which makes it possible to involve people who are not professionally engaged in scientific creativity in scientific research. Thus, the interest of society and involvement in theoretical and practical developments become higher, which in turn strengthens the position of science in the information society. Scientists expand opportunities to interact with each other and obtain relevant information that can help in their research. The exchange of experience becomes the key to the successful development of various scientific disciplines, including the emergence of new interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
