Style and paradigm as two approaches to shaping in architecture

The article identifies the main approaches to shaping in architecture, showing that such are the style and the paradigm. At the same time, if the style is a stable system of the principles of shaping in architecture, then the paradigm basically turns out to be a system of the guidelines that define the field of the possibilities for building systems of the norms of architectural shaping, which is implemented in a variety and, to a greater extent, different than the general principles of architectural shaping within a single paradigm. The introduction of the concept of an architectural paradigm is possible due to the high degree of the correlation between the socio-humanitarian knowledge and the architectural design. At the same time, the formation and approval of the style is possible in a socio-cultural context defined by the mental dominants of a generalized, universal nature. The paradigm is generated in the cultural space defined by the individualistically colored mental foundations. Thus, if the artistic and aesthetic paradigms of Romanticism, Gothic, Baroque, and a number of others are explicated as the styles, then many modern style citations such as technoBaroque, neo-Gothic, etc., as well as the metabolism, the nonlinear architecture, and the postmodern architecture represent many paradigms with a higher degree of the subjectivity and individuality than the style. Thus, the idea of the modern theoretical and architectural space as a field of the coexistence and rivalry of the architectural paradigms, as a field of the permanent genesis, the subjective-contextual process of formation of the new architectural paradigms becomes justified. In this aspect, the subjective-contextual aspect of the gossip from the postmodern mental dominants and inherent personal beginnings of the architect, for example, the desire to create something new, become famous, prove their creative worth, etc. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
