The relationship between life and creativity as an introduction to the theme of dominant principles of the verbal creativity in A. Bely and F. A. Stepun

A. Bely and F.A. Stepun show great interest in studying therelationship between life and creativity, life and art, but at the same time they differ in determining thecontexts of consideration, the essence of understanding and the results of solving this problem. Both ofthem adhere to the teleological approach that proves their commitment to the ideas of Neo-Kantianismand phenomenology. The contexts of consideration, Stepuns valuable and Belys theurgical, tend toreveal the meaning of different spheres of life, creativity, and their relation. F. A. Stepun insists on thelack of coincidence between life and creativity, considering it as a basis for harmony.The differentiation between life and two value scales provides tools for contrasting completeness oflife and splitness, partial character of any creative act. Antinomity of life and creativity cannot beovercome. If creativity, dualistic by nature, is measured by the unity of life, then laziness and tragedyof life of creative personality are inevitable. Mysticity, true religiousness as non-objectified experienceexist only in life, they cannot be transferred to culture, which is creativity. Spetun believes that there isno God in the results of creativity, there is only striving to Him. Stepun and A. Bely use the same vocabularybut in Stepuns works it carries a different meaning. Life, its religious completenessand depth can be expressed in hieroglyph, manifest itself in gesture, but these signs according toStepun do not convey it completely. Positive total-unity (vseedinstvo) of the soul is not revealedexhaustively through symbol, hieroglyph or gesture etc. For A. Bely rhythm, gesture convey deepmeaning of both life and creativity, but their symbolic nature cannot be presented in exhaustive way inliterary works. For A. Bely and Stepun sings only partially express the completeness of life, givingreason to characterize the situation using the metaphor of paradoxical translation. A. Bely speaksabout the coincidence of life and creativity. Theurgy, a religious foundation are the beginning of lifeand creativity. The experience of self-perfection is interpreted by A. Bely in the coordinates ofcommunication, and life-creation (zhiznetvorchestvo) for him is a source and a result of his verbalcreativity. The experience of self-expression as the experience of verbal creativity is directed,relatively speaking, toward the spiritual vertical. It is rather the embodiment of new meaning than itstransmission, it is a problem of expressing, searching for new ways of existence of new meaningrather than a problem of real, ordinary (horizontal) communication. Life Line is highly significant inthis respect. It serves as the experience of implementation of a new creative effort to find the meaningof ones life and creativity. The problem of the relationship of life and creativity is associated withfinding dominant principles of existence and development of the verbal creativity of A. Bely and F.A.Stepun, but it is the task of another study.
