Methodical approaches of researching the satisfaction level in marital relationships
Relevance of Research: there is a growing awareness of the value of diagnosis and professional advice in the community at the attempt to restore the marital and family relationship of marital partners. The most commonly used domestic procedure aimed at measuring the level of marital well-being and the satisfaction with marital relations is the corresponding questionnaire written by V.V. Stolin, T.A. Romanova, G.P. Butenko. When developing the method, the authors proceeded from the thesis that the main factor binding the marital union is such emotional ties as love and affection. Another well-known domestic procedure diagnosing the satisfaction with marital relations is the questionnaire written by Yu.E. Alyoshina, L.Ya. Gozman, E.M. Dubovskaya where the researchers first of all consider the communicative understanding of a couple as the indicator of successful relationship. Our review of national studies showed that modern writers actively apply methodological tools developed by the researchers during the Soviet years. It should be noted that a number of our techniques, in particular, marriage satisfaction questionnaire written by Yu.E. Alyoshina, L.Ya. Gozman, E.M. Dubovskaya was developed by processing and adapting of proven foreign questionnaires, the direct use of which was impossible in the USSR because of the large cross-cultural differences with the West. One way to measure the level of marriage satisfaction in foreign psychology is a long psychological interview. Its results allow the interviewer to refer a couple to one or another category characterized by the degree of satisfaction with marital relations. For large-scale studies it is advisable to use questionnaires, which include a wide range of direct and indirect questions, characterizing the subjective assessment of relationship quality among spouses. In particular, an effective Dyadic Ajustment Scale (DAS), developed by Gr.B. Spanier, which characterizes the degree of consensus in interpersonal relationships of spouses on different parameters, is used as a diagnostic instrument for measuring the level of satisfaction with marital relations. To determine the source structure of DAS scale Gr.B. Spanier used the determined differences between unsatisfied and successfully adapted couples, highlighting the following four areas of dyadic adaptation: dyadic consensus, dyadic satisfaction, dyadic cohesion and dyadic affectional expression. Purpose of Research: through this work we aim to extend the results of previous studies of the dyadic adjustment scale developed by Gr.B. Spanier, using the sample of young Russian couples and to expand the diagnostic methods of family relations psychology.
