Patterns of personality-driven perception of the urban environment of high school youth from two siberian cities
The article presents the results of research of the patterns of personality-driven perception of the urban environment of high school youth from two Siberian cities - Lesosibirsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory) and Tomsk. It was attended by students, undergraduates and graduate students studying a degree in non-humanitarian profile. As the hypothesis was the assumption that typical for young men and women personal characteristics affect the nature of perception and evaluation of their urban environment. Accordingly, the more young people have realized and disclosed their personal potential, the greater opportunities for self-realization they would be able to see in the city. Using the method of cluster analysis (method of k-means) two clusters were selected in Lesosibirsk and Tomsk samples. High school youth from cluster 1 in both samples is characterized by low rates of personal potential and the negative evaluation of the conditions of the city. Boys and girls from cluster 2, in contrast, are characterized by high rates of personal potential and a positive view of the urban environment. Such personal characteristics as the ability to self-organization, the tendency to self-determination and systemic reflection, the manifestation of basic career orientations are the basis for a kind of positive perception of high school youth environment of the city. As a consequence, young people with high levels of personal potential focus on highlighting opportunities for self-realization in the city. In cluster 2 in both samples correlations between the level of development of the personal characteristics of boys and girls and their proposed subjective evaluation of the environment of the city in relation to opportunities for self-expression are positive. Rigidity, low level of development of the ability of self-organization, the tendency to self- observation and fantasy, by contrast, are typical for young people with negative evaluation of the urban environment. In this regard, young people with higher education with low personal potential notice in the city only obstacles to personal and professional development. However, in cluster 1 in both samples, the nature of the correlation relationships between the level of development of personal characteristics of high school youth and their realizability of basic values in the urban environment is ambiguous, because they can be both positive and negative. In addition, young people from cluster 1 in Lesosibirsk and Tomsk samples are focused on starting a business, but do not have a developed capacity for self-organization, and therefore tend to assess negatively the urban environment because it does not provide the opportunity to realize the basic value of "feeling safe".
