METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES IN QUALITY OF LIFE RESEARCH IN MEDICINE

The paper discusses conceptual and methodological issues in quality of life research in medicine. The importance of integrating scientific and humanistic paradigms within biopsychosocial approach is emphasized. The authors call attention to theoretical and methodological difficulties in this domain of research and suggest that quality of life be considered using principles of systems and adaptation theory as well as humanistic principles of taking into account the unique nature of individual experience, feelings, needs, values and personal meanings systems.
