The botanists of Tomsk State University during the Great Patriotic War
On the basis of archival materials and periodicals there was reconstructed activity of botanists of Tomsk State University during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It is emphasized that botanists have made a great contribution to solving the problem of replacing imports and scarce herbs wild in Siberia and in the supply of civil and military hospitals. To study the location and inventory of medicinal plants there were organized a number of expeditions to Kulundu, Sayan, Khakassia, Altai and Trans-Baikal. The bactericidal properties of a number of plants were of important role in research. The problem of kauchkonosov also was worked over. In addition, the staff of the Botanical Garden designed the technical process of obtaining a substitute for tea, coffee and vegetable concentrates.
