Russian elements in romanian toponymy

M. Ştefănescu, Professor of the University of Iași, made a great contribution to the study of the Rusinian toponymy of the Carpathian-Dniester lands. In 1923 she defended her thesis on the topic “Russian-Rusin elements in the Romanian language and the duration of their existence” (“Elementele ruseşti-rutene din limba romînescă şi vechimea lor”). In the 1920s she published a number of articles on the Rusin toponymy of historical Moldova in the journal “Arhiva” (Iași, Romania). In her works the researcher proved the autochthonousness of the Rusins living in this region.
