Zadachi karpatorusskoi istoriografii [The Objectives of the Carpathian-Russian Historiography]
In the brochure, Alexey Petrov, a famous Russian Slavist, raises the main, in his opinion, questions that the historiography of Carpathian Rus' faces. He uses the term “Carpathian Rus'” to describe only a part of its territory - the so-called Subcarpathian (Transcarpathian) Rus' within Czechoslovakia - having specified the narrow usage of this term. First of all, Petrov considers the question of the origin of Carpathian Rus', of the time the Rusins settLed on the southern slope of the Carpathians. Further, he tells about the emergence of Christianity among the Subcarpathian Rusins and about the history of the Carpathian-Russian people. In conclusion, the author outlines the challenges researchers face. The main challenge is the study of sources: both medieval Hungarian and of the period of the region's accession to the Habsburg Empire. The main theses of his work are still relevant today.
