Zadacha i metod issledovaniya [The Objective and Method of Research]
In this chapter of his monograph "History of Ancient Rus", Ivan Filevich, a famous Russian historian, describes the contribution of Russian and foreign historians to the study of the history of Carpathian Rus'. He mentions works by P.I. Keppen, N.I. Nadezhdin, Yu.I. VeneLin, AA. Kunik, I.I. Sreznevskiy, V.I. Lamanskiy, D.I. Zubritskiy, A.S. Petrushevich, A.A. Kochubinskiy, I.L. Pich, and others. Having studied works on the history of Carpathian Rus', he concludes that this topic was raised a Long time ago, and the fact that “the SLavic-Russian tribe has existed in the Carpathians and beyond the Carpathians since the ancient times” has been proved by the researchers. FiLevich saw the objective of his own research in a “feasible filling of a gap sensitive in our historical science”, in the study of the territory of Carpathian Rus', its ethnographic composition, ties with the rest of the Russian world and its relationship to the Slavic family.
