How scientists in the humanities assess scientometrics
The article discusses a wide range of issues associated with the use of scientometric methods in the humanities, for example in history, philosophy, and philology. It draws on the results of a survey conducted among humanities scholars of different ages and statuses who deal with different research topics and have different attitudes to the problem. Are these methods in fact applicable in the humanities; what are the pros and cons as to their use in this regard; what does international experience tell us about this; how much important are the rankings and citation indices for a humanities researcher; how important and feasible is it to publish in foreign languages (first of all, in English) in international journals included in foreign bibliometric databases; how does it influence scholars and institutions' ratings; what is the specifics of what humanities scholars employed at the university do - these are some of the questions the article seeks to explore.
