Bitter manioc (Manihot esculenta Cranz) in the context of the typology of cultures of indigenous groups of Amazonia and Orinocia
Bitter manioc or cassava (Manihot esculenta Cranz) is widespread in the Amazon and Orinoco lowlands. The cultivation of bitter manioc, the process of removing prussic acid from its tubers, which is dangerous to human health, and eating the products obtained after processing them, are important components characterising the economy and culture of the indigenous groups of Amazonia and Orinocia.
