The Tangshan earthquake in China: current commemorative practices
In 1976, the Chinese city of Tangshan was completely destroyed by the earthquake known as Great Tangshan earthquake. Today, in the restored city, in memory of this event, there are several memorial spaces that differ in their purpose and degree of importance. This study focuses on the commemorative practices of Tangshan residents during the Qingming festival and on the role of political, social and cultural factors in creating places of memory and constructing collective memory.
