American Life of Russian Programmers (An Ethnogender Aspect)

The article is devoted to the analysis of the features of the everyday life of two generations of Russian-speaking programmers in the United States (late 1990s - early 2020s). The main task was to consider the dynamics of the adaptive capabilities of Russian programmers in the foreign cultural environment of American IT companies. Based on field research materials, both professional activities (with gender aspects considered), as well as the private and family life of Russian programmers in America were studied. The research methods included participant observation, interviews, analysis of the blogosphere and the study of letters to their homeland in the 1990s, reflecting the real experiences of Russian-speaking programmers and their families in the process of getting used to the American way of life. The methodological basis of the article is based on an interdisciplinary analysis and includes consideration of both foreign and Russian research papers.
