Krasnoyarsk Territory reaching the international level of organising sports events in the result of regional students sports movement development

After the break-up of the voluntary sports society ''Burevestnik'', the Territorial Sports Committee managed sports events between higher educational institutions in Krasnoyarsk Territory. The sports and physical education activities within higher educational institutions were mainly developed by Physical Education Departments either independently or through sports clubs. Due to such management of the students sports movement in the region it became possible to preserve the majority of sports developed in the higher educational institutions in the Territory. The Siberian Federal University became an experimental ground for this research. In 2009, the University established a new structure of the sports club, which was not directly subordinate to the Physical Education Department, but formed an independent methodological and management body to develop student sport in the University. Within the 2009-2010 academic year, over 260 events were conducted with the total number of participants exceeding 25,000 people. The Siberian Federal University won the open All-Russian contest ''2011 Higher Educational Institution with Healthy Life-Style'' and was awarded a prize in the same contest in 2012. It also won the open public All-Russian review contest of educational institutions of secondary and higher professional education for the best organisation of health and sports work in 2011-2012. This resulted in the fact that the Siberian Federal University team won the first All-Russian Winter Universiade. The participants of the latter were students from 54 higher educational institutions of Russia. The team also won the silver prize in the second All-Russian Summer Universiade (1547 students from 132 higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation). Taking into account the developed traditions of the student sports development and achievements at the All-Russian level the Administration of Krasnoyarsk Territory with the support of the sports societies found it possible to apply for the right to host the World Winter Universiade in 2019. This initiative was supported by the President of the Russian Federation, Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation. On September 01, 2012, the Russian Students Sport Union sent an official letter No Ref 01-5.2-190 to FISU (International University Sports Federation) regarding the participation in the competition to host the World Winter Universiade in 2019 in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation. Even the application campaign to host the World Winter Universiade in 2019 and activities related to its organisation already changes the attitude of students to physical education and sports. New possibilities appear to develop sports among the youth of the region.
