The museum network of Тomsk region: historiography of problem

The study of the countrys museum network in general and the specific regional one is necessary for optimal control of theorganization of the museum area. Any study begins with a historiographical analysis. However, the historiographical representation ofhistory museums in the country is heterogeneous: in some regions, this area has received significant coverage, which is confirmed bymany studies, in others this question has been studied very poorly or not touched upon completely. The museology of Tomsk region hasalready received coverage in a number of historiographical sources; however, this area is still poorly studied. The aim of this paper is topresent and analyse the existing historiographical material on museums in Tomsk region. The data were divided into three chronologicalstages: pre-revolutionary, Soviet and post-Soviet. Among the pre-revolutionary works on the history of museums in Tomsk region articlesin local newspapers, covering the issues of creation of museums and their activities, various museum projects in the 19th-20th centuriesdominate. The Soviet period in historiography can be divided into several stages: 1. 1920s-1950s - includes periodic materials, inwhich the authors discussed the activities of the main Tomsk Regional Museum; 2. 1960s-1980s. - apart from articles in the periodicalpress, a large number of scientific articles on the activities of Tomsk Regional Museum and other regional museums appear. The worksof this period are of exploratory nature and give an idea about the origin of museums, their main activity, their role in the cultural andscientific life of the region, etc; 3. since 1990s  among the works of this period of greatest interest are collections of articles on scientificconferences, local history publications, as well as museographic publications: the Proceedings of Tomsk Regional Museum, albums,booklets, research collections, studies, etc. In order to study the history of museums in Tomsk region the Proceedings of TomskRegional Museum represent greatest interest, especially Volumes 7, 11 and 15. Articles of the Proceedings of Tomsk Regional Museumare among the major historiographical sources for the history of museums and museum network of Tomsk region. Thus, activization ofthe study of museums on the territory of Tomsk region occurred at the beginning of the 21st century, at the third stage. As a result of thebrief historiographical survey it was revealed that at present the study of history of organization and activity of the museum network ofTomsk region, as well as the history of museums in this area are only beginning, which is promising for researchers.
