Akmola provincial department of the society for the study of Kazakhstan as the organizer of museum practice in Northern Kazakhstan in 1923–1928
The work reconstructs the history of the Akmola provincial department of the society for the study of Kazakhstan in the development of local history, the opening and maintenance of the museum in the city of Petropavlovsk in 1923-1928. The article was written on the basis of sources stored in the State Archives of the North Kazakhstan region, many documents have not been previously studied and not introduced into scientific circulation. The uniqueness of the sources used lies in the complex nature of the information contained in them, reflecting the directions of the Company's activities. Reporting documentation and minutes of meetings contain not only decisions and planned types and forms of employment, but also personal data, brief trip reports, financial and methodological needs. Also important is the reflection in the documents of the nature of relations with state, private and public structures in the creation of a museum and the creation of a network of local lore cells. The Akmola Provincial Society for the Study of the Local Territory was established in 1923 by enthusiasts of local history and museum work. In addition to a significant number of activities related to local history, the main thing for the Society was the organization and all kinds of support for the museum in the city of Petropavlovsk. At the initial stages, the organization did not have any statutory or methodological documents regulating its activities, for which it regularly kept in touch with republican and union local history societies, museums, state and public organizations. They were approached both for the provision of methodological assistance, and with requests for special literature on local history and museum construction, exhibits. The Board of the Society, as the main coordinating body, regularly campaigned for the entry of new members into the ranks of the organization. Preference was given to the most prepared in terms of scientific and qualification training activists - teachers of schools and secondary specialized educational institutions. Such was the first director of the Akmola provincial museum I.P. Dyachkov, in the first year, combined his work at the school with the management and maintenance of the museum. Particular attention was paid to Kazakh-speaking correspondents who were able to obtain household items, oral and written materials from the life of the Kazakhs. The work was built around sections, mainly of economic importance, which was dictated by the general direction of state policy. The activists of the Society collected exhibits on expeditions around the province, bought them from the population, accepted them into the museum funds free of charge. They also organized thematic, event, anniversary exhibitions within the walls of the museum. The Board of the Society has long been the treasurer and governing body of the museum. The photograph, which the organization owned, additionally financed the museum for the purchase of exhibits, materials, and shelving. It is this financial assistance, in many ways, contributed to the rapid growth of museum collections, museum visitors. Thus, it can be confidently asserted that the Akmola provincial department of the Society for the Study of Kazakhstan was the organizer of the museum in the city of Petropavlovsk and significantly influenced the spread of the local history movement and museum construction in northern Kazakhstan.
