Integrated application of product allocation principles in storage
The author presents a newly developed method for efficient allocation of packaged products in the warehouse storage area. The method is based on using two well-known principles, including allowance for the comparative frequency of individual stock item release and allowance for the need for regular total release of products from the warehouse. In this case, the aim is to reduce the average time required for the selection of product batches to be shipped unloaded by means of reduction of the average path length inside a warehouse from issue sites to storage sites and back, which significantly increases customer service efficiency. A number of background assumptions characteristic to most warehouse processes have been made. It is commonly supposed that the storage space is divided into a finite M number of conventional storage positions. The decision on the allocation of stock items is made up with the accuracy to a specific storage position. A motion path up to the issue point is set for each position. The costs for motion in path are a monotonic increasing function of the path length, Keywords
