Rationality as an integral part of the management process
In the article, a conclusion is put forth about the necessity to identify the connections between management, rationality, and the approach to representing a complex artificial system. It is important to consider all these facts when creating the conditions to implement the model of the “new economic man”. It is also necessary to take into account that the notions of the main characteristics of categories like “rationality”, “economic behavior”, and “management” are changing. Management can be examined as both decision-making processes and as processes involving actions. The article investigates the evolution of notions about rationality in various areas of knowledge (e.g. philosophy, economics, sociology), and the evolution of new interdisciplinary trends. These factors allow one to identify new approaches to studying the notions about the model of a human being, the rationality of economic behavior, and features of their implementation in the “new economy”. Different interpretations of economic behavior are described in the article. The term economic behavior refers to behavior concerned with the selection of economic alternatives in order to make a rational choice when dealing with limited resources. The main theoretical approaches to decision-making are defined, and there is an analysis of models of ethical and value guidelines involved in decision-making. Decision-making involves considering objective, subjective and intersubjective knowledge. Ideas about rationality should taking into account the “law of situations”. The combination of one and the same kind of knowledge to make a rational decision will vary based on the situation. Decision-making could be considered both a process, as well as a choice. The current paper shows the difference between economic and psychological sciences in terms of a full reflection of the management process. It’s necessary to evaluate the decisions made from the standpoint of rationality. Searching for and justifying the criteria of rationality corresponding the specifics of a certain situation is very relevant. Rationality has different mechanisms for situations when the market is effective, and situations when the market is not effective. The making of a decision by an individual cannot be separated from other individuals interacting with each other. In order to provide social rationality, an approach based on the spatial model of rational coordination of interests (otherwise, the spatial model of strategic goals) to solving problems of personal and common interest is offered. The decision-making process is largely determined by the type of rationality. The main principles of this process are formed based on two types of organic rationality. It’s necessary to investigate different resources and goal limitations of organic social and classical rationality, and organic consensual rationality for economic behavior.
