Evolution of the innovation process management models
This paper presents a research in the sphere of innovation process management. It is relevant due to system-wide transformations of innovation processes that imply shift in management emphasis at all levels of the economy. Besides, theoretical interest in this problem comes from the need to systematize the accumulated knowledge and experience in the sphere of innovation management (at the microlevel in the first place). The conducted research gives the opportunity to note substantial evolutionary transformations of innovation process regarding the form of organization and the content of stages and connections. Each new model is created following the resolution of previous contradictions. This paper systematizes key characteristics of models belonging to each generation (1G “Technology push”, 2G “Market pull”, “Market” model, 3G Interactive, combined model, 4G Integrated model, 5G Model of system and network integration) and presents contradictions which stimulated transition from one generation of models to another and set the course for innovation models evolution. There is certain continuity between models, namely, most elements constituting previous models are preserved and some new elements that define next generation’s specific character are added, i.e. every generation of models serves as the basis for more complex ones, which acquire new factors, participants, connections, stages, etc. Such tendencies comply with characteristics of evolving systems (according to the theory of systems), comprising transformation of accumulated quantitative growth of elements and connections into qualitative changes in the innovation process management. Due to investigating gradual accumulation of new qualitative characteristics within innovation process, we are able to identify several key tendencies of the innovation models evolution and describe its current properties. Despite a number of conventions in the course of innovation process stages and models allocation, their analysis will enable us to develop an understanding of trends and prospects of innovation management at higher levels of domestic economy, including regional innovation systems, by means of drawing parallels between the environments for systems on different levels of development. Any of the models presented can be used as a situational tool in innovation management process through comparing the actual environment with the historical market situation that accompanied the introduction of some particular model.
