The factor "Trust" in labor motivation concepts
The article analyzes a number of classical concepts of motivation developed at different times in order to explain the reasons for the differences in the effectiveness of employees. The research enables us to explain the existence and role of trust mechanisms in the content of these theories. It is found that the phenomenon of trust implicitly presented in the content of the key concept "regularity of reinforcement" (corroborating theory). The term "regularity of reinforcement" bears two aspects: the informing of the employee that his performance corresponds to the expectations and the growing conviction of the employee that similar labor efforts will be rewarded in the future. This understanding of the term corresponds to the definition of the trust's essence as the expectation of well-defined behavior another towards us. Within dispositional theories such terms as "the top group of needs" (A. Maslow), "the need for relation with other people", "the need for growth" (K. Alderfer), "motivating and hygiene requirements" (F. Herzberg), "relevance", "autonomy" (R. Hackman and G. Oldham), "need for achievement" (D. McClelland) also include elements of the mechanism of trust. Their realization in the labor activity, according to the results of our analysis, is not possible in the absence of independence and responsibility, based on the investigated phenomenon. In cognitive theory (V. Vroom, L. Porter, E. Lowell, E. Locke and others) "the level of the employee's expectations" is the key category. An analysis of factors affecting the level of expectations (the support of other team members, the regularity of reinforcements) allows us to determine the link between the "trust" concept and the specified categories. The study also makes it possible to prove that the classical theory of motivation does not exclude an important role of mechanisms of trust at all stages of labor management (analysis of works, selection of personnel, training, planning and reorganization of labor process, creating favorable working conditions, evaluation of the labor results, payment). To sum up, we identify the direction of search for the connection "trust - results of labor".
