Biometrics in the Russian Banking System
The relevance of this article is due to the projected widespread use of biometric technologies in various sectors of the Russian economy, as well as in connection with the launch and development of the Unified Biometrics System (UBS) in 2018, the possible prospects of its application in the activities of commercial banks and other financial market entities. The widespread use of biometric technologies is one of the key directions of the new economic reality and a global trend in the development of the world financial system, which indicates their significant importance in the development and digitalization of a huge number of sectors of the economy. The objectives of this study are to determine the key areas of application of biometric technologies in various sectors of the Russian economy, to determine ways to effectively realize the potential of the UBS of the Russian Federation, to identify existing problems associated with the use of this system in the practical activities of credit institutions. The general scientific methods methods used in the study are analysis and synthesis, comparison, generalization, a systems approach. The study resulted in identifying the features of using biometric technologies in the financial system of Russia and of other developed countries, in finding the promising areas of UBS operation and their potential use by commercial banks and other economic entities of the Russian Federation.
