The activity of West Siberian architects in the late XIX - early XX centuries
In the architecture of the West Siberian town in the late XIX - early XX centuries played an important role the creativity of graduates of Academy of Arts and of Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. They designed a variety of buildings with different functional purposes: religious, admitistrative, social, educational... In their works they brought to the enviroment of the West Siberian town new styles, which already had been developed in the European part of Russia: eclecticism, modern style and neoclassicism. The buildings of some architects differed with adherence to the academic traditions. But some architects supported the new modern style. Almost all graduates of Academy of Arts in Tomsk, who worked here in that period, left a noticeable mark in the city architecture. These architects were K.K. Lygin, P.F. Fedorovskiy, T.L. Fishel and V.F. Orzheshko. The creativity of K.K. Lygin became principal in the image of Tomsk. The architectural image of Omsk in the late XIX - early XX centuries was enriched with projects of the following graduates of Academy of Arts and of Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture: G.S. Bartkovskiy, N.N. Verevkin and L.A. Chernishov. The name of N.N. Verevkin was well known not only in Omsk, but also in St. Petersburg, where he built several buildings in the downtown area. For the society "Salamander" he designed the buildings in St. Petersburg, Kharkov and Omsk, where he turned to neoclassicism. In the images of towns and villages of the Tobolsk privince the religious architecture had always played an important role and in the late XIX - early XX centuries here was also built a large number of churches and chapels. In that period the Tobolsk diocesan architect was the graduate of Academy of Arts B.B. Zince. Under his leadership was built a large number of religious buildings in the Tobolsk province at the end of 1880s-early 1900s. In his works the architect often turned to the "Russian style". Except construction of new buildings some architects did lecturing at schools: K.K. Lygin, P.F. Fedorovskiy, V.F. Orzheshko and L.A. Chernishov. The architects also took active part in the work of different societies and in different competitions. K.K. Lygin was a regular participant of nationwide competitions for the design of buildings for Moskow, Samara, Novgorod, Kazan and Tula. The architects K.K. Lygin, P.F. Fedorovskiy, T.L. Fishel and V.F. Orzheshko were among the initiators of the formation of Tomsk Society of Arts.
