The role of the information and analytical newsletter Sel’skiy Zhurnalist in the training of specialists in vocational education (2001–2007)
The main direction of work of the editorial board of the newsletter, the content model of which corresponded to the format of the magazine, was associated with organizing discussions about the problems of local publications. For this purpose, Sel 'skiy Zhurnalist [Rural Journalist] introduced such sections as “Information for thought”, “An experiment in progress”, “We are not stokers, not carpenters...”, “This is how we live”, “Add to cart!”, “By pages regional newspapers”, “About myself and my profession”. One of the media educational objectives of the publication was the formation of critical thinking. The editorial staff focused on different segments of the audience: current correspondents of local newspapers, students - future journalists, and young correspondents at school press centers. The main section “An experiment in progress” in several issues of the newsletter included an analysis of the content of 32 district newspapers of Novosibirsk Oblast. Editors and correspondents not only noted the shortcomings in the content and compositional-graphic models of publications, but also traced the positive experience of their colleagues. The advantage of the newsletter's editorial policy was the involvement of teachers and students of the Journalism Department of Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University for its creation. The teachers' articles contained the theoretical information, recommendations on choosing the topic of newspaper materials, on methods of obtaining information, on creating publications in different genres, and on the graphic design of newspapers. Such texts were published in the section “Conversations about the profession”. The students characterized the activities of the editorial offices of the local newspapers in which they completed their internship, noting the advantages and disadvantages of the content and compositional-graphic models. This material was published in the sections “We are not stokers, not carpenters.”, “The journalistic replacement is growing”, “Students about practice”. The newsletter's staff considered pre-university career guidance an important task, so a significant place in the newsletter belonged to articles on the preparation of young correspondents, publications of the winners of the Journalina regional competition, and the opinions of the young correspondents about a local newspaper for young people. Thus, the role of the information and analytical newsletter Sel'skiy Zhurnalist was to create the media platform on which the critical thinking of the audience, the professional skills of young people, students and employees of district and city newspapers were developed in discussions. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
