Russian Journal of Media Studies is a new journal of Tomsk State University.
We are starting to publish a new journal that is conceived as a tool of professional self-awareness. In the Higher School of Journalism of Tomsk State University we feel our responsibility for the connection between university science and journalistic practices, and initiate this journal as a locomotive of media studies.
The Russian title "Voprosy Zhurnalistiky" reflects our desire to capture as much as possible, in the field of view and research analysis, topical problems of all sides of journalistic activity, as well as of related communication spheres. When we called our journal so, we did not strive for originality or special sonority. Our journal is academic, and is based on the traditions of university publications. In addition, we see that the Russian media space is quite conservative and tends more to the values of preservation than to destruction and innovation.
The mission of the journal is to reflect the latest and most significant results in the field of the Humanities, social sciences and media studies; to reflect scientific results that will promote a deep understanding of the essential issues of journalism, television, mass communications, publishing, advertising and public relations.
Russian Journal of Media Studies positions itself as an open platform for communication of scholars and media professionals. The main aim set by the publishers of the journal is to promote free discussion and exchange of ideas for the benefit of advancing theoretical research, concepts and science-based forecasts in the real media economy.
The journal is intended for researchers and lecturers, postgraduates and undergraduates majoring in communication, as well as for editorial staff, editors, media managers and investors of media projects.
The editorial policy is based on the principles of respect for the reader, openness and an interdisciplinary approach. The priority of the journal is the publication of high-class articles that can interest a significant part of the professional community of journalists and theorists of journalism. The journal relies on becoming the "final point" for readers in their search for scientific information about the changing media sphere, history, theory and practice of journalism, professional education of journalists and media education for non-journalists. But the journal can become a reputable and cited edition only with the help of its authors and a well-established system of article reviewing.
