The university newspaper Narodnyy Uchitel’ in the regional media environment

University periodicals of the 20th century deserve attention in terms of their role in the regional media environment and the specifics of the transition to corporate media. Using the example of the newspaper of the Tambov State Pedagogical Institute Narodnyy Uchitel’(1957-1993), the conditions for the formation of periodicals in regional universities were determined; their relevance in the environment of regional journalism was studied; and the peculiarities of the presentation of youth content were fixed. The role of university newspapers as a school of journalistic and literary personnel of the region was also established. The theoretical basis includes the research of printed periodicals of regional universities (Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Petrozavodsk, Krasnodar, Voronezh, Omsk). As a result of the study, it was concluded that the information needs formation of students in terms of informing, experience sharing, political and ideological influence, and the formation of professional values led to the development of a special type of Soviet periodicals - university newspapers that became real sociocultural institutions. If modern corporate publications are, on the one hand, PR-documents and, on the other, a journalistic product, then the university press of the Soviet period is journalism that performs the most important social task of fully covering the activities of the higher educational institution. Such periodicals often became a universal platform for attracting the youth audience to sociopolitical topics. Also, university periodicals played the role of youth periodicals with their entertaining, leisure, orientation functions. The need to accumulate the self-expression processes in student environment made university newspapers centers for talented scientists, professionals, journalists that formed the creative intelligentsia community. In the regional environment, these university media were also in demand, as they built communicative relations with a certain audience. The uniqueness of university periodicals was that they were both university and youth. University newspapers were a kind of a school that formed journalistic and literary skills, and often played the role of an experimental, less official, communicative platform.
