Young people’s expectations and requests for youth policy: a sociological survey analysis (on the example of the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania)
This study analyzes the expectations and demands of youth regarding youth policy in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. In the context of increasing global competition for youth’s worldview, there is a growing need to develop effective strategies for government engagement with the younger generation. The research is based on a sociological survey of 577 respondents aged 14 to 35, allowing for the identification of key value orientations, preferences, and factors influencing youth involvement in public processes. The study identifies the main motivations for youth participation in public organizations, highlights the most popular event formats, and examines barriers that hinder active engagement in existing initiatives. The study showed that the top priorities for young people include family, professional self-fulfillment, and the preservation of national traditions. Cultural heritage, as well as access to educational and career opportunities, play a significant role in shaping youth identity. Particular attention is paid to the sources of information on youth policy, which helped assess the level of awareness among young people regarding the activities of relevant government bodies. The analysis revealed that a significant portion of respondents lack sufficient information about ongoing programs, indicating the need to improve communication strategies. The study’s methodological framework includes both quantitative and qualitative data analysis, incorporating statistical methods such as correlation analysis. This approach made it possible to identify relationships between youth’s life values and their preferences for support mechanisms. It was found for the first time that young people’s value systems directly influence their engagement in public initiatives, presenting new opportunities for improving youth policy. The findings of this research can be used to develop comprehensive programs that integrate both traditional and modern approaches to youth engagement. The conclusions presented aim to optimize existing youth policy mechanisms, enhance their effectiveness, and increase youth participation in socially significant activities. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
