Comprehensive electron-ion-plasma treatment of the aluminum surface in a single vacuum cycle
The main characteristics of a laboratory setup designed for electron-ion-plasma modification of the surface of materials and products in a single vacuum cycle are presented and principle of operation is considered. Using the Al-Ti system as an example, the possibility of multiple increasing the mechanical (microhardness) and tribological (wear resistance and friction coefficient) properties of the material surface layer as a result of the implementation of comprehensive treatment in a single vacuum cycle, combining the formation of a A7 aluminum surface layer alloyed with titanium according to the «deposition/irradiation» scheme (number of cycles from 1 to 20; thickness of the metal film in one cycle 0.5 μm and 1 μm) and subsequent electron-ion nitriding (540 °C, 8 h.) of surface alloy, carried out in the plasma of a non-self-sustained arc discharge due to both the ion and electron components of the plasma has been demonstrated.
