History of the journal

Monthly issuing of the journal ‘Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh zavedenii  of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR. Fizika’ began in 1958. The publication of this periodical was conditioned by the development of the fundamental sciences after the World War II and also by timely coverage of the scientific achievements of the higher school. The first organizer and chief editor of ‘Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh zavedenii. Fizika’ was academician V. D. Kuznetsov, a prominent scientist engaged in solid state physics. After Kuznetsov, this position was taken by Prof. K. V. Savitskii and Prof. V. N. Detinko, who was at the head of the journal for over 30 years. After Detinko and until 2022 the post of chief editor was held by prof. A.I. Potekaev. Today, M. A. Sheremet holds the post of the chief editor.

Our journal is widely known in the universities, academic centres and libraries of Russia, CIS countries and far abroad. ‘Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh zavedenii. Fizika’ is included in the Union Catalog ‘Pressa Rossii’ (subscription index 70380). It is translated into the English language and is available in many countries around the world. Mature and young scientists of universities and academic centers of Russia, CIS and far abroad countries are actively engaged in publishing in the journal, thus presenting research results from different regions of the country (Siberia, Far East, Ural, European Russia) and such countries as Kazakhstan, India, Pakistan, Iran, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, and others. The high level of publications in ‘Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh zavedenii. Fizika’ is provided by detailed examinations performed by the leading scientists of Russia. The full translated version of the journal was published until 2022 under the name “Russian Physics Journal”.

The journal plays an important part in the professional development of young researchers assisting them in defense of dissertations, entering the high science through the publication of their articles in thematic issues. It is a good feedback which promotes the enhancement of scientific schools and facilitates the development of new scientific trends.

Since 1992, the journal was published by the Scientific & Technical Literature Publishing House. Since 2022, the journal is published by Tomsk State University. The joint activities of the Editorial Board members and the editorial staff allows our Publishing House to make progress in the journal development and preserve its traditional headlines:
