Reflection of a plasma wave from a potential barrier, the size of which is commensurate with the wavelength
The reflection of a plasma wave from a potential barrier, the size of which is commensurate with the wavelength, is considered. Since the barrier potential is much larger than the wave potential, plasma oscillations cannot exist in the area of this barrier. Only density modulation is preserved in electron-beams with different energies that move in the potential field of the barrier. The reflected wave is formed as a result of interference of modulated beams reflected from a potential barrier. Wave reflection is analyzed using two specific examples: reflection from linear and parabolic barriers. It is shown that if reflection occurs in a time less than the relaxation time, then regardless of the barrier profile, the reflection coefficient is equal to one. The phase lag of the reflected wave relative to the phase of the incident wave is found.
