The effect of stiffness of polymer matrix on reinforcement efficiency of nanocomposites polymer/carbon nanotube

The efficiency of filling of nanocomposites polymer/carbon nanotube, manufactured by different methods - by blending in melt and solution and also cross-linking of polymer matrix in situ, was studied. It has been found that nominal elastic modulus of carbon nanotubes don’t influence on their effectivity (enhancement of elastic modulus of nanocomposite) as nanofiller. In this quality stiffness of polymer matrix and content of carbon nanotubes are two defining parameters. It is significant that effective elastic modulus of this nanofiller can be both smaller and larger than its nominal value.
